April 2007

Cheryl Coburn Browne

April brings another gifted speaker to the BSSDC—Cheryl Cobern-Browne. She will share some of her world-wide experience with beads in a talk titled Making Beads Make a Difference.

Beads have long been an important part of Cheryl’s life. She taught beadwork in her shop, Beads & Adornables, for many years before passing the business on to The Bead Museum in Glendale, Arizona. She served as director of the museum from 1999 to 2002.

In 1994, Cheryl founded Beadventures, a company that offers educational travel opportunities for those addicted to beads. Beadventures began by conducting weekend retreats in the mountains of Northern Arizona and expanded its horizons to Europe, Africa and beyond in 1998. Cheryl believes that gaining insight into different cultures through arts, crafts and handwork is a wonderful way to learn about our common humanity.

She will illustrate her talk with images taken around the world.
